The Salt Lake City Public Library system's main branch building is an architecturally unique structure in Salt Lake City,Utah, which is a good example of vertical and horizontal circulation. An architect before designing or building a structure he has to take on account how is going to be the circulation in the structure. Therefore I’m going to analyze the horizontal and vertical circulation of this beautiful building. Let’s start by analyzing the horizontal circulation of the public library, its horizontal circulation starts with the approach to the building; we can see how is surrounded with green areas and paths that leads to the main entrance of the library, once you are in the building there is a longitudinal way across the middle of the building, but is not lineal, it follows a radial line the gives the curved shape of the building. It connects the different rooms and it separates the diverse functions of the complex, and on the superior levels it has long halls at the sides with different directions that lead to many different areas of the structure. The vertical circulation is very neat, it has 4 elevators, a beautiful spiral staircase, regular stairs on one side and a ramp that takes you up to each level. The architect made a great job designing the spiral staircase because they are very unique and beautiful I can conclude that the building is an excellent example for vertical and horizontal circulation because it’s well defined and it has numerous paths stairs elevators and ramps.
